CHANA's 1st International Medical Conference
"Facing the Fertility Challenge Together"
will be held on Monday 31st January 2011 at Finchley Synagogue Kinloss Gardens, London N3 3DU

Renowned medical specialists with expertise in the field of infertility and experienced Rabbis, sensitive to Halachic (Jewish legal) fertility issues, will offer presentations at Chana's 1st International Medical Conference. Medical professionals, Rabbis, therapists supporting individuals and couples dealing with reproductive health concerns, as well as members of the public, will all benefit from a wide choice of workshops on offer at the conference.

The conference is a unique opportunity to obtain the most up to date information on available treatments and their implications, as well as to meet professionals in the forefront of their fields.

PRESENTING WORKSHOPS

MRS SHIFRA APTER MA, Psychotherapist

  • Trained at Goldsmiths, University of London.
  • Mrs Apter is an experienced psychotherapist with a special interest in couples and relationships.

MS SARA BARNETT BA (Hons), RGN, RM, PGCE, Midwife

  • Practice nurse at three GP practices. Ms Barnett is also a visiting lecturer on Healthcare modules at Stanmore College, Harrow.

DR VERONIQUE M BERMAN BSc (Hons) PhD, Molecular Biologist

  • Former senior scientist at the Hammersmith Hospital's Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory in Haematology.
  • Dr Berman has a Doctorate in molecular endocrinology with a particular interest in hypogonadism and infertility.

DR SIMON FISHEL PhD, Embryologist

  • Managing Director of the CARE Fertility Group, UK. Dr Fishel is recognised for his pioneering work in IVF, especially in the fields of microinjection for male infertility and preservation of fertility in children with cancer.
  • He has been active in the field for over 30 years, researching at Cambridge with Professor Robert Edwards before the birth of the first IVF baby.
  • He has written over 200 scientific articles and edited three books on the subject.
  • Dr Fishel was awarded a personal Professorial Chair in Human Reproduction in recognition of his work and is also an inspector for the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA).

MR ANDY GLEW Laboratory Manager

  • Co-established the Essex Fertility Centre, now the Herts and Essex Fertility Centre where he currently manages a successful team undertaking 700 IVF cycles per annum.
  • Mr Glew was a founder executive member of the Association of Clinical Embryologists and is currently an external inspector for the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority.

DR DAVID GOLDMEIER MBBS,MD,FRCP, Consultant Physician specialising in Sexual Medicine

  • Based at Imperial College NHS Trust at St Mary's Hospital, Dr Goldmeier is the clinical lead for the Jane Wadsworth Sexual Function Clinic and is involved in clinical research.
  • He is on the board of directors of a number of national and international sexual function organisations.

MRS ROSALYND GOURGEY MSC RD, Dietitian

  • Graduated from King's College, London with a post graduate diploma in dietetics. Mrs Gourgey has worked in Central Middlesex Hospital focussing on issues including weight loss and advice for PCOS sufferers.

MR ANTHONY HIRSH MBBS,DRCOG,FRCS (ENG), Consultant in Andrology

  • Based at Whipps Cross Hospital and Bourne Hall Clinic, Mr Hirsh is a surgeon specialising in male sub-fertility.
  • He is a lecturer at King's, Guy's and St Thomas's Medical Schools.

MR ARJUN JEYARAJAH MA MRCOG, Consultant Gynaecologist & Gynaecological Oncologist

  • Based at St Bartholomew's Hospital and Queen's Hospital Romford, Mr Jeyarajah was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 2007.
  • His research interests include screening for ovarian cancer and laparoscopic pelvic surgery.
  • He has extensive experience in radical pelvic surgery.
  • In the private sector he consults in Wimpole Street, London.

MS SARA LEVENE MSc, Principal Genetic Counsellor

  • Ms Levene is a Genetic Counsellor based in the Clinical Genetics department at Guy's Hospital.
  • She has a broad genetics caseload of general and cancer genetics.
  • The Guy's Genetics department where she is based, in conjunction with the local Assisted Conception Unit, runs one of the most active Pre-implantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) services in the NHS.

MR GIDON LIEBERMAN BSC MBCHB MD MRCOG, Consultant Gynaecologist

  • Based at The Whittington Hospital Mr Lieberman is the clinical lead responsible for Fertility Services and the Early Pregnancy Unit.

MRS GEETA NARGUND FRCOG, Medical Director

  • Consultant and Head of Reproductive Medicine services at St George's Hospital, London.
  • She is also the Medical Director of Create Health Clinic, London.

MR DAVID J RALPH BSc MS FRCS (Urol), Consultant Urogenital Surgeon

  • As a Consultant Urologist and Uroandrologist Mr Ralph is based at The Institute of Urology, University College Hospital, London.
  • He has a wide interest in all aspects of sexual medicine and leads an active research programme with PhD and MD fellows.
  • He is an accomplished Micro Surgeon who established and currently teaches on the Royal College of Surgeons Microsurgery for Andrologists course.
  • Mr David Ralph has previously been President of the British Association of Urological Surgeons (BAUS) section of Andrology and British Society for Sexual Medicine (BSSM).

PROFESSOR LESLEY REGAN MD FRCOG MBBS, Head of Obstetrics & Gynaecology

  • Professor Regan is a Consultant Gynaecologist specialising in Recurrent Miscarriages at Imperial College, St. Mary's Hospital, London.
  • Her specialist interests are in recurrent pregnancy loss, sub-fertility, non-invasive therapies for the management of uterine fibroids and general gynaecology and obstetrics.
  • Professor Regan recently received a Woman of Achievement Award for services to Reproductive Medicine.

DR ANDREW SOLOMON MA (Cantab) BSc BM BCh (Oxon) MRCP Endocrinologist

  • Based at Princess Alexandra Hospital, Dr Solomon is a locum consultant in Diabetes and Endocrinology.
  • He is trained as a physician in internal medicine, diabetes and endocrinology with specialist experience as an endocrinology research fellow.

RABBI GIDEON WEITZMAN Rabbinical Counsellor at the Puah Institute

  • Rabbi Weitzman counsels couples at the Puah Institute, the Centre for Halachic Gynaecology and Fertility in Israel.
  • He has authored several books and has also been a visiting associate professor at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York.

DR DAVINIA WHITE FRACP, Associate Specialist in Reproductive Medicine

  • Dr White is based at the Reproductive Medicine Department, Imperial College NHS Trust, St Mary's Hospital, Paddington.
  • Trained in internal medicine and specialised in reproductive endocrinology.
  • Dr White's special area of expertise is ovulation induction treatment.

REBBETZEN C R ZIMMERMAN BA

  • Rebbetzen Zimmerman has counselled couples and taught Kallohs (brides) and their teachers for many years in the USA and the UK.
  • She is Rebbetzen to the Gateshead Rov.
